We are currently seeking a Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Physician Assistant to perform initial and follow-up medication management assessments for clients who suffer from Psychiatric and/or Addictive symptoms. The Physician Assistant shall recommend and prescribe psychiatric and detox medications, when appropriate to clients through Tele Services and/or through direct face to face contact in an outpatient setting. The Physician Assistant should be comfortable with the patient population, function independently with minimal supervision by the Psychiatric and Buprenorphine waivered Physician.
This position is responsible for:
• Performing thorough evaluations and/or assessments.
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, drug screens, establishing and managing treatment plans, and prescribing psychiatric and or detoxification medications whenever he/she feels that it is appropriate.
• Instructing and/or counseling clients and their families with regard to their illness and treatment regimens as needed.
• Facilitating client access to other providers by recommending appropriate referrals whenever he/she feels it is necessary.
• Maintaining all certification requirements recommended by the Board of Medicine and DEA as well as understanding and complying with all current laws, rules and regulations which govern the practice of physician assistants in the State of Virginia.
Education and Experience Required: A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; be a licensed physician assistant with current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification and Buprenorphine waiver; and have clinical experience with psychiatric and substance use populations.
