Nelnet is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our data initiatives across our Nelnet Business Services (NBS) division. Reporting directly to the NBS Corporate Technology Officer, this role oversees the areas of Data Engineering, Data Warehouse Architecture, Data Science, Data Analytics and Reporting, and Salesforce Development and Support.
As the driving force behind our data strategy, you will inspire our teams to champion business intelligence, analytics, and reporting endeavors, resulting in the creation, management, and enhancement of robust data solutions. Your efforts will serve as the bedrock for informed decision-making throughout our division.
In this capacity, you will be entrusted with the critical responsibilities of formulating and executing strategies, making pivotal decisions, and overseeing activities aimed at evolving our business intelligence and reporting solutions. Your role extends to empowering data analytics, reporting, data models, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and various other facets of data utilization. Furthermore, you will be accountable for establishing and enforcing efficient data solution processes, ensuring that projects are delivered in adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shape the direction of data solution delivery, business intelligence, analytics and reporting, data engineering and architecture.
- Collaborate with the Salesforce CRM manager to create a scalable CRM structure, expand the Salesforce ecosystem, and ensure data integrity, compliance, and security in support of our business growth.
- Build a cohesive team culture of ownership, growth, transparency, and customer focus.
- Build strong relationships with business and IT stakeholders to continue to implement an enterprise data strategy.
- Work closely with the Data Governance Practice Manager to implement an enterprise data governance strategy.
- Lead team in delivering end-to-end data solutions that are:
- highly available, scalable, stable, secure, and cost effective.
- customer focused, easy to consume, and create sustained business value.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and solution owners to plan and execute data projects.
- Ensure teams have the necessary product specifications, technical direction, and resources to efficiently deliver data solutions, while also setting realistic timelines and maintaining project alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Promote business intelligence and data analytics best practices across the organization and stay up to date on technology and process advancements, continuously implementing improvements which yield positive business outcomes.
- Lead and develop teams of analysts and engineers to modernize our business intelligence platforms and drive innovative data product solutions through a strong business acumen and the adoption of emerging technologies.
- Foster culture of innovation by proactively identifying opportunities to introduce new tools, technologies, and processes to deliver increased business value, service reliability, and improved delivery execution.
Salary for this role: $160k-$180k
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong leadership and project management skills; experience organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal and external resources.
- Track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Deep curiosity for exploring how data is used across our organization, and a drive to improve upon our data strategy to support operational efficiencies and decision making.
- Proven ability to leverage consumer insights to develop brand positioning.
- Ability to build and deliver the "big picture" strategy.
- Strong knowledge of curating large, complex datasets to derive KPIs, metrics, and analytics that transform empirical data into insightful, strategic decision-making visualizations.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse data modeling and architecture.
- Flexible and adaptable to learning and understanding new technologies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 10+ years of related experience required.
- 7+ years of experience managing data analytics/business analytics/reporting teams.
- 5+ years of experience with business intelligence and reporting platforms
- Knowledge of Data Governance concepts
- Hands on experience with Data Engineering and Warehouse Data Architecture a plus.
- Knowledge/Experience in Data Science a plus
- Knowledge/Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM system a plus
- Knowledge of Salesforce database design and development a plus.
