Job Description
Follows the dose prescription specified by the Radiation Oncologist, plans a treatment technique and imports the data into radiation electronic medical record by the means of a computer treatment planning system. Plan is developed that will deliver a prescribed dose of radiation to a defined tumor volume in a timely manner.
Performs quality assurance and dose calculations on all patients’ radiation therapy charts prior to treatment to ensure patient safety. Appropriate billing procedures followed.
Proficient use and knowledge of hardware/software of treatment plans (correct field initiated activities based on the needs of the department.
Assist the therapist in the implementation of the treatment plans (correct field arrangements, treatment parameters and the use of immobilization and modifying devices) when needed.
Assists with CT scans, simulations, patient treatments, mold room procedures and other self-initiated activities based on the needs of the department.
Provides technical assistance to the physicist when requested with brachytherapy procedures, subsequent calculations, dose distributions, assists with radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations, quality assurance and special clinical problems.
Participates in weekly Technical/Chart rounds.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Board Certified in Clinical Medical Dosimetry (CMD)
A graduate of an approved hospital affiliated medical dosimetry program with clinical and classroom curriculum of nine month duration. Registered Radiation Therapist.

Kind and Length of Experience:
1 year supervised experience in radiation therapy dosimetry. American association of Medical Dosimetrist Certification (CMD)
5 yr. experience in Medical Dosimetry.
