Job Title: Fire Battalion Chief (Training)
A professional management position with the Fire Department responsible for managing the Training Division. This Administrative Staff position works a 40-hour week working in administrative services, training, and safety. General duties include but not limited to, Teaching, demonstrating and supervising practical work in techniques of emergency response to adequately prepare first responders to be safe, efficient, and effective in an all-hazards environment against risks that include fire, medical, trauma, hazardous materials, and rescue incidents; Supervising the Lieutenant who is assigned as instructor in the Training Division; Developing and implementing annual training calendar to meet Fire Department and individual member goals; Developing and implementing officer development programs and assisting employees with professional development plans; Maintaining departmental training records; Investigating potential violations of Fire Department and/or personnel rules and regulations and recommending appropriate actions; Coordinating with other agencies on training and safety planning; Working with Personnel Department in recruitment and/or promotional recruitment processes; Functioning as needed as incident commander or other command staff role at emergency incidents; Coordinating and managing fire training facilities.
Starting salary $69,934/yr. or commensurate with experience. State annual incentive pay of $4,300 applicable upon certification as a firefighter in Kentucky. $3,000 annual ALS stipend for paramedics also applies. Provided benefits include but are not limited to, health insurance, group life insurance, wellness program, and CERS retirement through Kentucky Retirement Systems. Paid time off includes vacation, sick time, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required at time of application)
High School diploma or GED, plus Associate’s degree in Fire Science or job-related field, plus a total of 6 years of consecutive full-time hazardous duty service. If Associates degree is not possessed, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered acceptable (e.g., 60 college hours, or 3 years additional full-time firefighting experience, or an equivalent combination thereof).
