Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit in the greater Mankato area, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Program Director at the Mankato Family YMCA oversees the development and operations of various programs, such as health/wellness, aquatics, youth activities/camp, youth sports and adult recreation, preschool, and child watch and/or other programs and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management. Recruits, trains and supports assigned program directors. Provides liaison to committee(s) and advisory board.
Qualifications
1. Never been accused or convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse
2. Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent.
3. Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
4. CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 60 days of employment.
5. YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team Leader certification preferred.
6. Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
8. Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
9. Ability to work in a highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment.
10. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of community; Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
11. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
Essential Functions
1. Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to provide high-quality program(s) and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
2. Develops and controls department budgets related to the position so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
3. Recruits, trains, develops, evaluates, recognizes, holds accountable and directs staff and volunteers in assigned areas, in order to ensure safe, high-quality member-focused services through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing staff training. Ensures staff certifications are current and complete. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
4. Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
5. Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
6. Follows all program policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention Policies.
7. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
8. Coordinates special events and activities.
9. Ensures quality results by monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness and adhering to program standards. Uses data to analyze financial trends and forecast future financial progress for the organization.
10. Rewards and recognizes new and relevant ideas and approaches even if not successful.
11. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
12. Attends and assists as needed with Program Committee, Director and Staff meetings.
13. Provides Cause Driven Tours to prospective new members, and follows-up with them according to YMCA guidelines
14. Performs other duties under the direction of the Executive Director.
