Key Responsibilities:
• Establishing and enforcing rules of behavior for students in the classroom
• Preparing lessons, units and projects to complete learning objectives
• Establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units and projects
• Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students
• Encouraging students to explore learning opportunities and career paths
• Creating, assigning and grading various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays and
projects
• Working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention
• Tracking and evaluating student academic progress
• Leading parent-teacher meetings
• Maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers and supervisors
• Managing student behavior
• Creating a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment
• Communicating regularly with parents
• Helping students improve study methods and habits
• Administering tests to evaluate students’ progress

- Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Commonwealth of Virginia teaching certificate or appropriate teaching enforcement or be eligible for a state-approved temporary “provisional” certificate while pursuing full certification

- Design and implement a full program of student instruction in the area of certification and employment assignment consistent with approved state and local policy regarding appropriate educational philosophy and standard curriculum under the direction of the administration
- Plan, organize, direct, and manage the instructional process for assigned students, including all special populations, utilizing instructional and assessment objectives and procedures consistent with approved curriculum in order to obtain maximum educational benefits for improving students’ academic progress as defined in the school-based and district-level plans
- Supervise assigned students and implement the disciplinary procedures outlined in Pulaski County Schools Board-approved policies thereunto
- Supervise student conduct and behavior throughout the school environment to maintain the safety and well-being of students and staff
- Review and select appropriate instructional material suitable to stated educational objectives
- Utilize a variety of analytical and evaluative techniques suitable to the curriculum content
- Utilize all available prescriptive and diagnostic assessment data in the design and assessment of instructional programs to affect growth in student performance indicators
- Relate with students, professional colleagues and staff, parents, and the larger community through proactive, positive professional collaboration and cooperation.
- Attend and actively participate in all relevant scheduled meetings of staff, committees, subcommittees, task forces, and other assigned groups addressing the needs of students, schools, and the school division
- Communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff and administration as a positive representative of Pulaski County School system
- Communicate a high level of positive support of all students in their educational development
based on assessment information
- Assume personal responsibility for remaining informed of current practices and increasing knowledge in assigned curriculum area and in maintaining mastery of technology competencies
- Assume responsibility for contacting and conducting parent conferences as needed
- Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by supervising principal and other division administrative personnel
