Job Summary
The Certified Pharmacy Technician works under supervision of the centralized team manager to assist in prior authorization of new prescription medications. The main areas of responsibility are computer profiling and Secretarial.
• Filling prescriptions for patients.
• Adjudicating prior authorizations or new prescriptions on-line.
• Correcting insurance information as necessary.
• Profiling prescriptions which include entering prescription, patient and insurance data.
• Medical Records: Maintains thorough knowledge of electronic medical record systems for seeking authorization for durable medical equipment and prescription drugs, completing disability, Worker’s Compensation and Medical Leave forms, referrals to other practices and agencies for services and reporting functions. Organizes, maintains, and distributes, as needed, the medical record information of patients accurately and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and federal law. Documents Release Of Information accurately and works with appropriate parties for record storage and retrieval as applicable.
• Stays up to date and knowledgeable about the varying and continually changing prescription drugs and requirements of payor programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course is preferred. Successful completion of Pharmacy Service Line competencies within 6 months of hire.
Experience : Previous pharmacy work experience is required.
Licensure/Certification : Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required. Nationally Certified Pharmacy Tech required.
Other : Must be able to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications and focused on attention to detail/accuracy. Must be customer service oriented. Requires knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard. Must be able to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
