JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Club Sports will be responsible for overseeing and growing the club sports program with a commitment to create a positive student experience. This position is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and daily operations of all aspects of the Gustavus Adolphus College Club Sports programs, including the head coaching role in one of the sports. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
Employment Status: Full-time (40hpw/48wpy), Exempt (Salaried), Benefits-Eligible, Flexible work hours, including nights and weekends, will be necessary.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management
• Provide day-to-day management of Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, Cheerleading, and Men’s Hockey.
• In addition, provide advising and support to Coed Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Rugby, Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Nordic Skiing, Equestrian, Men’s and Women’s Ultimate Frisbee, and Dance.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all coaches and student leaders involved in Club Sports.
• Develop policies and procedures for the overall Club Sports program.
• Compile, prepare, and maintain records for Club Sports budget, practice schedules, home games, and roster management.
• Upkeep and maintain all participant waivers, injuries, and incident reports.
• Responsible for inventory and maintaining all Club Sports equipment.
• Develop and maintain Club Sport manual as well as Club Sport supervisor staff manual.
• Assist in the development and implementation of risk management protocols for Club Sports events and programs.
• Work evening and weekends when necessary, regarding Club Sports events, games, and recruiting.
• Assist with the marketing and promotion of the club sports programs.
Personnel Management
• Coordinate the hiring process for all Club Sport coaches and volunteers.
• Responsible for the training and evaluation of Club Sport coaches/supervisors.
• Responsible for the hiring, training, and supervising of student employees.
Budget Management
• Maintain accurate records of the Club Sport budget and communicate to club coaches and student leaders about their status regularly.
• Research, develop, monitor, and adhere to the Club Sports program budgets.
• Oversee program payroll, tracking, and approvals by working closely with Human Resources and the Payroll departments.
Research & Assessment
• Evaluate all Club Sports programs and services to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction to decide on possible changes as deemed appropriate.
• Assist in the development and implementation of other potential Club Sports programs to help grow enrollment.
Recruitment and Coaching
• Serve as the Head Coach for one of the following Club Sports: Men’s or Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, Cheerleading, or Men’s Hockey.
• General recruiting responsibilities for all the Club Sports:
• Meet with prospective student-athletes on and off campus.
• Achieve yearly recruiting goals in partnership with the Admission office.
• Instruct, teach, and coach student-athletes on game strategies and performance.
• Monitor academic compliance and eligibility for competitive rosters.
• Create and maintain a culture of sportsmanship and manage team disciplinary matters.
• Coordinate practice plans, schedules, competitions, and any required travel plans.
• Plan, conduct, and evaluate practices.
• Manage game-day preparation and scouting of opponents.
Other
• Prepare written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation statistics, etc.
• Actively participate in department or college committees as assigned.
• All other duties as assigned.
Prerequisites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Collegiate, Club, or High School coaching experience or experience as a collegiate student-athlete.
• Strong communication skills, including in-person, online messaging, email, and documentation.
• Ability to provide superior customer service and positive interactions with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
• Leadership, strong attention to detail, and effective marketing skills.
• Administration, personnel & organizational management knowledge, preferred.
• Knowledge and skills for budgeting.
