Job Purpose :
This position will be responsible for evaluating the financial statements and condition of individual and commercial loan customers applying for Credit, including new, renewal or extension loans. Will assist the SVP Chief Credit Officer, Senior Commercial Underwriter, commercial and business bankers, and/or third parties as requested or assigned. Will assist in the supervision of and provide guidance and coaching to the Credit Analysts.
Job Duties :
• Will underwrite commercial credit requests for new and existing borrowers.
• Will spread and analyze financial statements, trends, and projections to determine repayment capacity, credit worthiness, and potential strengths and weakness of borrower.
• Perform annual reviews of commercial Credit relationships to assure timely and accurate risk ratings of loans and early identification of deterioration in Credit quality;
• Validate annual reviews and risk rating recommendations of commercial business line personnel (Relationship and Portfolio Managers);
• Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual Credit portfolio reports;
• Work with commercial bankers, customers, CPAs, attorneys, and others to underwrite commercial Credit requests;
• Perform industry research to determine borrower performance relative to its peers; and to assess the overall macroeconomic trends within the borrower’s industy.
• Assist in monitoring delinquency, financial statement reporting, borrowing bases, and financial covenant tracking to ensure proactive portfolio management and early detection of credit risk within the bank’s portfolio.
• Assist commercial banking staff with problem loan management and preparation of Criticized Asset Reports (CARs);
• Participate in loan discussions with sales line and other credit administration (pre-flights, approval, etc.) to ensure adequate loan structuring and adherence to bank policy.
• Demonstrate proactive portfolio management with timely response and follow-up on Loan Review and Audit exceptions;
• Will complete special projects as assigned by manager.
Education, Experience and Job Skills :
• A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance preferred or a business degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university; or equivalent, relevant work experience;
• 5 years minimum of relevant work experience required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Technical writing skills;
• Working knowledge of Excel and Word;
• Previous experience with Baker Hill, Moody’s, and Integrated Business Solutions (IBS) is beneficial;
• Superb organizational skills, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and problem solving skills;
• Ability to read and understand financials statements and accounting reports;
• Proven ability to read and interpret company policies;
• Proven professional presentation and negotiation skills;
• Proven ability to exercise discretion and judgment and make independent decisions;
• Continue professional development through self-training, participation in recommended courses, in-house training, seminars, and/or professional certifications;
• Light to medium lifting required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout Peoples footprint of offices as well as various schools, trainings, seminars, etc.
Basis Qualifications :
• A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance preferred or a business degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university; or equivalent, relevant work experience required.
