Job Duties
The Department of Corrections is Virginia's largest state agency. The Department works daily to operate its facilities, supervise individuals in the community, and contribute to long-term public safety through re-entry programs supported by evidence-based practices. The Department's mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Commonwealth by improving public safety.
This position can be located in the Western Region of the State.
This position represents the Department in all aspects of employee grievances heard before administrative hearing officers and matters before the Director of the Office of Employment Dispute Resolution.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in state employee personnel matters and administrative hearing procedures, legal research, writing, and investigative techniques. Knowledge of civil litigation, employment law, and criminal justice. Knowledge of The Virginia Personnel Act and employee grievance procedures.
Additional Considerations
Comprehensive knowledge of agency organizational functions and Department Corrections' processes and practices. Experience in administrative investigations. Demonstrated ability in drafting and reviewing settlement agreements; and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with agency management and state officials. Experience advocating in an administrative proceeding.
