POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of this position is to participate in maintenance related activities to develop proficiency in all aspects of the skilled trades worker role. Train to perform a variety of building maintenance tasks in and around East Campus Village, including pathways and public areas. Support Skilled Trades Workers in a variety of maintenance projects.

SUPERVISOR: Area Maintenance Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in maintenance related activities to develop proficiency in all aspects of the skilled trades worker role, including, but not limited to; plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry.
• Assist Skilled Trades Workers with minor electrical repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
• Perform filter changes and minor periodical maintenance as needed for equipment related to the day-to-day functions within the residence halls.
• Assist Skilled Trades Workers with drain and plumbing issues that may involve an additional person to complete the necessary task. May also complete related non-complex work orders in the event of the absence of a Skilled Trades Worker.
• Assist Skilled Trades Workers with the replacement of doors and windows and any associated hardware for proper functionality.
• Effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals such as custodians, residence hall staff, student and families, and other maintenance team members.
• Responds to written and verbal work orders requesting maintenance services, effectively listens and responds to instructions, requests and concerns.
• Inspect and clean mechanical rooms in common areas to avoid storage of combustibles and non-related items. Assure that all associated doorways and entrances are accessible.
• Inspect mechanical rooms for non-working lighting and replace lamps as needed.
• Assist Skilled Trades Workers with the removal and replacement of appliances within resident apartments utilizing hand trucks and associated equipment as needed.
• Perform touch-up painting in common areas and apartments in a clean and thorough manner when assistance is needed.
• Inspect fire extinguishers in common areas on a monthly basis, maintaining appropriate documentation.
• Know and understand the use of basic hand tools and power tools utilized in the building trades.
• Perform the listed responsibilities in a safe manner within the workplace environment and ask for assistance when needed.
• Perform summer work assignments as it relates to summer projects, this may include support from a student worker or temporary worker.
• Other duties consistent with the purpose and scope of this position.
Qualifications:
• Requires are least a high school diploma or equivalent.
