Job Summary
Owensboro Community and Technical College is seeking to hire an Adult Education Specialist in our Workforce Solutions Skills U department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide English as a Second Language education instruction to adult learners. It may also include instruction for GED-preparation and/or digital literacy skills. In addition, this position assists with administering pre- and post-tests, entering data, and assisting with recruitment and outreach efforts. Regular evening hours and/or work at satellite locations is required.
*This assignment is fully grant-funded and therefore scheduled to end June 30, 2024.
Job Duties:
• The primary purpose of this position is to provide adult education (ABE, ESL, and/or digital literacy) instruction, primarily for English Language Learners.
• Provide pre- and post-assessment service; accurately compile, review, maintain, and safeguard student records; perform accurate, timely data entry for student and program accountability and improvement.
• Maintain accurate and complete personnel records; participate in required professional development activities; serve on assigned committees and workgroups.
• Recruit and retain eligible adult education learners.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or another related field.
• Two (2) years related work experience or equivalent for experience only.
• Must score within NRS Level 6 on the 11/12 TABE A or within three months of hire. (Refer to the Skills U Implementation Guidelines for more detailed requirements for Math, Reading, etc. instructors).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with diverse populations and teaching adults, or special education is preferred.
• Current teaching certification in the content area of instruction is preferred.
• Specific knowledge and experience within the program area is preferred.
Additional Skills Requested:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for contact with students, fellow staff, and external partners.
• Able to employ a variety of creative educational strategies and techniques, including technology-based instruction, to reach a disenfranchised and diverse student population.
• Excellent organization skills to manage and maintain student/program files in compliance with regulations/policies.
• Strong computer skills to navigate data/instructional systems.
• Flexibility needed with regard to the changing distribution (percentage) of position responsibilities based on the demands of effective, efficient program operation is required.
• Must be capable of teaching all four GED subject areas (math, reading/language arts, social studies, and science) as well as English as a Second Language.
