About the College/Unit/Department
Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant provides integrated research, education and extension programs that foster the responsible use of Georgia's coastal resources by individuals, decision-makers and management agencies.
Our program is managed through a federal-state partnership between the University of Georgia ( UGA ) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration's ( NOAA ) National Sea Grant College Program, a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs located in coastal and Great Lakes states and territories.

Staff will be required to provide their own housing, cell phone, and transportation for work commute and occasional fieldwork (the latter of which is reimbursable when UGA fleet vehicles are not available). All supplies and materials acquired for the job for animal treatment will be reimbursed.
Required training and compliances will be provided as part of onboarding and then renewed as required as a condition of employment (e.g., IACUC , access to some of our field sites, use of state vehicles, working with minors/youth, venomous snake handling).

Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position will provide veterinary services and animal health expertise on research projects for Dr. Kimberly Andrews' Coastal Ecology Lab at the UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant facility in Brunswick, GA. Veterinary services will involve inspection and minor treatment of ambassador animals in the reptile teaching collection in Brunswick. If further treatment is needed that necessitates more invasive procedures or investigatory prognosis, the veterinarian may make recommendations to another facility or even facilitate the treatment. The employee will also make recommendations for husbandry protocols for captive animals. As part of the collaboration on animal health research, the veterinarian may design or provide recommendations for design methods for monitoring the health of free-ranging animals of focus in the research. Methods also include the design or execution of transmitter attachment and removals, as an example. Additionally, they will provide support and rehabilitation guidance in the event of an injured or deceased animal. As per the current IACUC Animal Use Protocols, they will prescribe any drugs or supplies that require professional veterinary licensure and are needed for research methods, rehabilitation, or euthanasia. In the event of a decease animal, they also may assist with or provide guidance for necropsies. Finally, the individual may contribute to research output in the form of sponsor reports, permit acquisition, renewal, or reports, and research presentations and publications for public and professional audiences.
