The Director of Undergraduate Success works most directly with the Associate and Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Affairs, the Engineering Undergraduate Registrar and Operations Manager in the Undergraduate Programs Office.  The position combines administrative responsibilities, student support and advocacy as well as improves systems and policies. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Affairs and is very collaborative within an Engineering Student Support Team (Embedded Counseling and Psychological Services counselors, Accessibility Specialist, Center for Diversity in Engineering) and across the university. Duties:Undergraduate Programs: Support the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Affairs and the School in developing academic programming including tutoring and summer orientation.  Educate and support prospective and current students through events such as annual engineering open house, engineering fall majors nights, university majors fair, family weekend, returning student support, and graduation. Serve as a reviewer on the engineering hardship and scholarship committee.Academic Advising and Coaching: Serve as point of contact for students interested in transferring into the School.  Meet with prospective and current undergraduate students and their families to provide advice on course enrollment, major/minor degree programs, and co-curricular opportunities.  Serve as the academic advisor for students who express interest in transferring out of engineering.  Collaborate with Engineering Foundation instructors, the Georges Student Center and Center for Diversity in Engineering on inclusive academic advising, especially for first year engineering undergraduates.  Serve as point of contact for students in academic recovery.Administration: Support the Office Manager and Registrar with high seasonal demand tasks including Intra-University Transfer Application processes and semester reports.  Recruit, hire and train tutors on pedagogical best practices.  Work with the Office Manager to track tutoring budget and report on student usage to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Affairs quarterly. University Collaborations:  Create and maintain relationships with university offices who support students and offer resources including Student Financial Services, University Registrar, Student Affairs, Admissions, New Student Orientation, and advisors in other UVA schools and College.  Represent Engineering Undergraduate Programs Office on university wide committees and other stakeholder groups.Preferred Experience:At least four years of direct student-affairs and/or academic-affairs-related experience in higher education.Experience providing academic coaching, academic advising, a basic understanding of motivational theory, or active learning strategies.Experience managing a tutoring program.This position will remain open until filled.  This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
