E&U serves over 18 million gross square feet of learning, research, residential, and support space across a geographically dispersed 1175 acres.The University of Virginia's Facilities Management - Energy and Utilities - Power and Light team is seeking an Electrical Engineer/Engineering Associate. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.Responsibilities:Collect building electrical system data and perform power systems analysis (short circuit, load flow, overcurrent coordination, and arc flash analysis) and provide labels as needed for existing buildings. Develop and maintain electrical system models.Reporting to the Associate Director of Power and Light, be an integral part of Power and Light team and provide technical advice to high voltage electricians in maintenance and installation of electrical distribution system.Ensure proper operation of protective relays at the 15kV substations and utility plants.Perform minor rooftop PV solar designs or studies.Provide electrical design and specifications for minor in-house projects.Analyze metering data; Resolve or mitigate power quality issues such as harmonics, noise, etc.Review construction drawings; support compliance efforts with applicable building codes, University Facilities Design Guidelines, and industry standards/best practices.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.Qualifications: Electrical Engineer:Education: Bachelor’s degree in EngineeringExperience:Minimum of four years of experience. Four years of experience in design, construction, operations, or concentrated field. Master's degree in Engineering may be substituted for up to 2 years of experience.Experience with NEC, IEEE and other applicable industry codes and standards.Ability to perform arc fault calculations; familiarity with SKM Power Tools.Preferred experience with, and knowledge of medium voltage (up to 15 kV).Preferred experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications such as Schneider Electric PMELicensure: Professional Engineer required (or ability to achieve within 6 months by comity) for Electrical Engineer.Electrical Engineering Associate:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field. Relevant experience in a technical field may be considered in lieu of a degree.Work Experience: Some experience in electrical design, construction, operations, or related technical fieldSoftware Experience: Autodesk Revit preferredPreferred Licensure: Successfully passed the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) exam or qualified to sit for the examCompensation:Anticipated hiring rate for Electrical Engineer is $75,000 - $105,000 annually.Anticipated hiring rate for Engineering Associate - $65,000 - $73,000 annually.Actual hiring rates dependent on applicants’ education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.  This is a full-time position with UVA benefits.
