The position will be between a .3 and .7 FTE. The Assistant Dean will teach and mentor medical students throughout the course of their career at KUMC, Salina. Direct special projects in education, and oversee/direct simulation training of medical students across all three campuses. The position will also have administrative and research responsibilities. The Assistant Dean will collaborate with various faculty/staff to optimize all students’ opportunities for success at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Salina. Duties are performed under the general direction of the KUSOM-Salina dean. \The position will hold an academic appointment with a relevant KUMC, Kansas City academic department.University of Kansas School of Medicine, Salina is a regional medical school campus graduating eight allopathic students per year. The mission of this campus matches that of the other two KUMC locations with additional emphasis on rural health care. Our students are primarily from rural venues. Because of its size, the students get in depth education from experts in foundational and clinical sciences with a much-reduced faculty to student ratio often as low as 1:2. Students perform well on standardized exams and consistently rank highly on the NBME Step 2 exam. Relatively young as a medical school, in the first ten years this school as enjoyed a 100% match rate. The KUSOM, Salina campus is optimal as a teaching environment for those who enjoy close contact with their students and appreciate the importance of providing rural areas with outstanding physicians.Job Description:Required QualificationsEducation/Licensure: Board certified Licensed physician. Must be licensed in the State of Kansas.Work Experience:Five (5) years clinical experience following completion of residency and if applicable, fellowship training.Five (5) five years of teaching experience with emphasis on UGME.Experience providing career guidance to medical students.Preferred QualificationsEducation: Masters level degree in associated field- MHSA, MBA, MPH, etc.Work Experience: Experience working in a classroom.Skills:Surgical/Procedural skills.Leadership skills.EducationalTeach Phase I students through lectures, small groups, or other sessions.Assist in direction or teaching of Phase II courses in conjunction with Dean and Phase II DirectorAdministrativeCoordinate Phase 1/Phase 2 overlapsOversee ACE curriculum activities and changes on the Salina campusServe on various academic committees including but not limited to Honors Research Program, Research Council, Phase II and Clinical skills.Serve as an interviewer for medical student interviews for admissionsDirect and review interprofessional events and simulations.Maintain and oversee procedures lab activities and equipmentOversee the SER week programs for the Salina campusAssist in remediation issues in Phase I and II curriculumResearchEngage in scholarly activities in medical education (e.g., curricular innovations, educational outcomes, teaching methods)—this may include authoring publications, applying for educational grants, participating in national activities such as giving workshops, presenting abstracts, and serving as a member of education committees.Required DocumentsCV/ResumeCover LetterIf selected as a final candidate for this position, you may be required to complete the Association of American of Universities Representations and Warranties document and sign a release of records that will allow the University of Kansas Medical Center to conduct a further background check with former employers.
