Description General Statement of Job
Provides strategy and support for the City’s network, including design, monitoring, upgrades, implementations, configuration, documentation, and maintenance of software and hardware required for operation of the network. This consists of firewalls, routers, switches, VPN services, network encryption, storage area network, cable/fiber optic infrastructure, wireless access points, load balancing, and other devices that support the network. Manages critical services and associated vendors, including internet egress, metro-ethernet, leased infrastructure, and VoIP telephony.
City Expectations:
Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.
Duties & Responsibilities Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1.    Performs design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of local, wide area, and internet network services.
2.   Provides expert level support for network switches, routers, firewalls, packet-shaping appliances, VoIP, and other security-related devices providing IDS/IPS.
3.   Assists in developing plans and systems to improve the performance, scalability, and security of IT systems, particularly as relates to network infrastructure.
4.   Configures switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, and wireless networks at the expert level.
5.   Develops and maintains network architecture diagrams. Maintains change management documentation for any network changes. Professionally communicates all
network changes to the IT team and City staff proactively.
6.   Responsible for shipping, receiving, and racking network equipment.
7.   Resolve escalated work tickets as needed.
Responsibilities :
Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of work assignments.  Responsible in work to the Information Technology Director.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education and Training
A Bachelor Degree in the Computer Science field and four  (4 ) years IT network experience; or an Associate’s Degree with six  (6 ) years of IT network  experience; or High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) years of combined IT network experience that provides the required networking knowledge, skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Skill Requirements :
Knowledge of computer networking, including LAN/WAN architectures, configurations, and associated software and hardware. TCP/IP, DHCP, VPN, BGP, NAT/PAT, IDS/IPS, firewalling, layer 2/switching, and layer 3/routing. WiAbility to learn specific computer applications used by various City departments and understand their interactions and network requirements. Working knowledge of Windows clients/servers, SQL, Microsoft 365, and other Microsoft services. Deep understanding of the OSI model, IP addressing, VLAN, routing, and VOIP Cloud based telephone systems via the internet. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, co-workers, supervisors, elected officials, and the general public. Possess a valid Florida driver’s license free of any serious violations. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and lift.  Requires finger and wrist dexterity and hand/eye coordination to perform keyboard functions.  Must be capable of functioning in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. Supplemental Information Working Conditions :
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with some travel to and from various work and training sites in the City. On-call and scheduled evening maintenance are required.
