Licensed, senior-level civil engineering work involved in major and complex planning, project management, design, research, modeling, construction, and operation of large engineering projects.
Support the operation of Traffic Management Center, support of the County’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), traffic signal operations projects, studies and other technical projects as assigned. Assists and coordinates with traffic management center and field staff regarding any changes, problems or plans involving signal control timing.

Job Description:
Traffic Management Center Operation
Manage County’s Traffic Management Center daily operation and train engineering staff.
Adjust traffic signal systems remotely to address the impacts of traffic incidents, traffic crashes, peak traffic congestion and lane/road closures.
Maintain, modify and implement Diversion and Evacuation Routes Timing Plans.
Coordinate with State and Regional Traffic Management Center and other stakeholders on regional traffic management matters.
Provide engineering support to sign and signal shop, coordinate maintenance, upgrade and continuous operation of traffic systems with field maintenance staff.
ATMS and Signal Systems Design
Support the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) Team, train engineering staff, and provide professional and technical work of Engineering projects, studies and other technical projects as assigned.
Design and prepare quarterly arterial performance report using traffic data from ITS devices.
Design signal timing using Synchro, SIM traffic software.
Researches, tests and helps to implement new technology in support of the County ATMS.
Helps plan and implement equipment and protocols in preparation for connected and autonomous vehicles (AV/CV).
Construction Plan Review and Misc.
Review of construction plans impacting operations referred by Land Development Services and Capital Projects.
Review of Temporary Traffic Control (MOT) Plans. Adjust signal systems remotely to support lane and road closures.
Represent Transportation at various community meetings regarding traffic issues.
Perform final roadway field inspection for acceptance by public works for maintenance.
Investigates customer concerns/inquiries; meets with citizens to define and resolve issues.
Preparation and reporting of transportation studies including traffic and roadways etc.
Ensure Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFB’s) operation is in compliant with the latest standards in MUTCD and FHWA.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Minimum of three (3) years of post P.E. related project experience.
- OR - Master’s Degree in Engineering may substitute for one year of required experience.
Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida or have the ability to obtain within 12 months from date of hire.
