Job Description
The Cath Lab RN is a health care professional that, through the utilization of specialized equipment and under the direction of a qualified cardiologist, performs procedures on adult patients resulting in accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment of congenital or acquired heart and/or peripheral vascular disease while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort.

Job Duties
• Provides patient care, patient/family education, patient monitoring, and drug administration in the cath lab (pre, intra and post procedure) under the direction of a Cardiologist to ensure patient safety and outcomes.
• Performs/reviews and documents a pre-procedural patient assessment to obtain adequate information, communicate pertinent data to MD, and promote positive outcomes for patient
• Evaluates patient response to diagnostic and interventional procedures and medications during cardiac catheterization
• Acts as first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures to assure completeness of case.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and products used for procedures to ensure its’ accuracy and safety.
• Assist in the education process of new employees, mentors students and other healthcare professionals observing in the cath lab.
• Assist in the development of performance improvement activities in the cath lab, to include ideas, data collection, data analysis and implementing change to ensure best practice in the cath lab.
• Must be able to perform above duties based on “population served” standards /competencies to include age-specific and diverse patient types.
Qualifications
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Must be RN, licensed in the state where work is being performed
Specialized Knowledge:
CPR certification, ACLS certification ECG rhythm interpretation, and knowledge of critical care medications
Kind and Length of Experience:
1-year critical nursing, or 1 year ED nursing, or 1-year operating room nursing.
