SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Sr Business Analyst - Performance Management role will be a key contributor on a team introducing a data driven approach towards managing performance. This approach will have 4 primary areas of focus:Creating/maintaining our analytical toolkits, creating business processes to monitor performance, leading matrix initiatives to address performance opportunities and leading ad-hoc analysis.Initially the role will contribute towards building our analytical foundation with a focus on data aggregation, analytic tools selection and creating reports focused on data sense making that heavily utilize data visualization. With the foundation in place, the role will pivot towards performance management of the business. In being part of this team, the role will utilize management tools such as benchmarking, comparables, and driver disaggregation to identify areas of opportunity. Once the areas of opportunity are identified the role will contribute towards ensuring internal stakeholders have problem awareness and have the support needed to remedy. When resources are not available to address the problem, this role may function as a lightweight project manager ensuring we drive solutions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• In performing the job responsibilities, you may have any (or all) of the following duties:
• Contributor to the creation of the departmental data foundation, this will require becoming an expert on multiple datasets across ops, commercial and finance
• Develop/maintain repository of self-service performance reports for a variety of stakeholders
• Identify performance improvement opportunities
• Contribute to performance management sessions ensuring the subject matter experts have awareness, alignment, and a path to address
• Where a clear owner does not exist to address performance opportunities, support, and lead the solution
• Conduct ad-hoc analysis as needed some of which may address business opp. vs. performance opp
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• PLUS 3-6 years of relevant experience preferred
• Work experience or education creating analytical models
• Work experience or education solving business problems
• Work experience that demonstrates accountability and responsibility
• Work experience or equivalent education in critical thinking and problem solving
MINIMUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
• Strong data manipulation skills expert level knowledge in excel and ability to write SQL and create queries. Experience with Tableau or other visualization tools a plus
• Takes ownership of opportunities and creates solutions
• Effective communicator with the ability to distill complexity into plain language
• Experience creating an approach / framework for addressing complex problems
• Strong analytical skill set to identify root causes
• Highly skilled communicator, that will utilize a variety of written and verbal mediums
• Highly skilled interpersonal skills will work across internal and external stakeholders who have expertise in all aspects of passenger rail
• Highly skilled at organizing projects
• Highly outcome oriented
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS in business, analytic or quantitative field
• PLUS 7+ years of relevant experience preferred solid work experience or education creating analytical models
• 2+ years of work experience
• 1+ years of experience in an analytical role
• 1+ years of experience creating analytical models
• 1+ years of experience solving business problems
• 1+ years of experience with data visualization
• 1+ years of experience working with 3rd party stakeholders
• 1+ years of experience working across divisions
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• General office environment
• May travel less than 25% of the time
• Working extended hours or after-hours responsibilities may be required
• Frequently works in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the individual to simultaneously manage several tasks, while paying attention to detail.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $80,580 - $104,430 for the Sr Business Analyst position.Payis based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience,certifications,internal equity,etc. Depending on an employees assigned worksite orlocation, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employees basesalary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and rewardour employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individualand company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
