The Office of Health Promotion (OHP) at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a grant-funded position of Sexual Harm Prevention Specialist. This position will facilitate student well-being through promotion of healthy relationships and sexuality, including oversight of OHP interns focused on delivering educational programs on collaborative consent and healthy relationships. Reporting to Jason Jones, this position works with a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external stakeholders to develop, evaluate, implement, and assess evidence-informed educational programs and workshops.This is a one-year, full-time, 12-month position supported by funding from the Virginia Department of Health with a possibility of an extension up to two years. This position is primarily in person, but some hybrid work arrangements may be available after an initial review period. The salary for this position is $45,000.Specific responsibilities include:Sexual Harm Prevention Interventions (40%)Collaborate with OHP staff on training and engagement of OHP internship program.Supervise OHP interns focused on sexual harm prevention, which includes but is not limited to the following:Oversee interns responsible for delivering prevention programs focused on collaborative consent, healthy relationships, and sex education to various student groups across UVAProvide feedback, guidance, and advisingSupport student development and facilitate a culture of teamwork, responsibility, and personal and professional growthOversee recruitment, training, and retentionLead a 3-credit independent study course to train future internsCollaborate with Student Health and Wellness, University, and other community professionals in providing continuing educationMonitor feedback of student internsEngage students interested in sexual harm preventionProvide feedback, guidance, and consultation to colleagues across UVA on matters related to sexual harm preventionWork with colleagues to identify needs and priorities, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and track trends (University and national) in attitudes, knowledge, perceptions, and behaviors to inform sexual harm prevention workOutreach and engagement (40%)Collaborate with OHP marketing and communications staff on website, initiative communications, social norms marketing, etc.Assist with conceptualizing and implementing annual orientation program for all incoming first-year studentsEngage faculty, staff, and graduate students on sexual harm preventionEnsure interventions are engaging and supportive of students from diverse populationsCollaborate with external stakeholders and offices to tailor interventions specific to those populationsExternal engagement (20%)Serve as a technical advisor to Virginia educational institutions (both postsecondary and K-12) interested in developing peer education programsRepresent OHP and UVA in the Virginia Department of Health’s Project ECHO program – a state-wide initiative to expand peer education programs focused on sexual harm preventionRepresent OHP and the University on appropriate internal and external committeesIn addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.This is an Exempt level, benefited position. The University will perform background checks and drug screening on all new hires prior to employment. Required Qualifications:A Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of full-time experience, a Master’s degree is considered the equivalent of 2 years' full-time workExperience implementing best practices in the public health field of sexual harm prevention.Experience working with sensitive and complex situations and topics requiring a high-level of discretion and professionalism.Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and evaluate volunteers and/or students.Demonstrable track record of inclusion, working with diverse and heterogenous student populations, managing complex projects, and leading evidence-informed programs.Strong commitment to the educational mission of the Department of Student Health and Wellness and the Division of Student Affairs, including student-self-governance.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak and write clearly with various populations; proficiency in word processing, report writing, etc.Ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive with pursuing collaborations; andAbility to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.Preferred Qualifications:At least one year professional experience working with college students.Knowledge of best practices in outreach and education, instructional design, student affairs, counseling, and/or collegiate health promotionUnderstanding of undergraduate students, including common issues, emerging needs, and interests, and specific populationsExperience with qualitative and quantitative evaluation methodsAPPLICATION PROCESSPlease apply through Workday, and search for R0049190.
