SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Director of Strategic Portfolio will help drive the competitive strategy, along with the process for identifying and executing actions that will allow Amtrak to improve its competitive position. This includes identifying where best to focus the organizations finite resources to meet strategic objectives, considering the business as a portfolio of activities and making trade-offs across the portfolio. This position will be responsible for writing and reviewing internal and third parties deliverables; gathering, process, and analyzing financial and strategic information; interacting with internal and external colleagues; searching and reading regulatory and market reports; writing and developing project documents and ensuring that all the knowledge inside the company partners is capture and incorporated.
This leader must successfully build collaborative relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization and manage through influence to deliver solutions for Amtraks long and short-range business objectives. This position requires a hands-on, self-motivated, smart, and emotionally intelligent individual who thrives in a highly dynamic environment and relishes the challenges and opportunities in the transportation industry.
The individual will work under the supervision of the companys senior leadership and directors to help them identify and synthesize information into a presentable format. This role will depend on various skills, including collaboration, foresight and risk management.
This is a hybrid role base on the East Coast
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Lead and coordinated Portfolio Management: Service Lines, Marketing and Commercial, Operations, Capital Delivery, and functional departments
• Coordinate, support, and guide projects to cross-functional stakeholders
• Support innovation team and initiatives
• Define and develop Amtraks competitive strategy in collaboration with Service and Asset line.
• Define, develop, implement, and monitor Amtraks portfolio strategy
• Determine a taxonomy of strategic initiatives & projects,
• Support, develop and implement of Amtraks strategic initiatives and projects
• Support in analyzing business and project information
• Communicate complex and technical information by writing and preparing documents, project reports, presentations, and other supporting deliverables which describe project progress and internal and third-party advisors documentation, potentially including the following elements:
• Business models, business plans, cost models, projects cash flow, and funding plan
• Organization and mobilization plans
• Investment plans in business opportunities
• Benchmarking of international business and best worldwide practices
• Manage the flow of information among project workgroups
• Understand complex information and communicate the information to people with diverse professional backgrounds.
• Study and analyze technical documentation to make proposals and suggest improvements.
• Develop, gather, and disseminate technical information among partners and stakeholders.
• Collect subject matter experts knowledge to solve complex business issues
• Regularly bring new issues to challenge the status quo, envisioning possible futures
• Conduct research on their topics through personal observation, library and Internet analysis, and discussions with technical specialists.
• Work collaboratively with advisors and key stakeholders to identify and write key project issues for the companys executives.
• Articulate and manage KPIs using metrics to drive performance and provide data supporting critical decisions.
• Collaborate cross-over interactions throughout the company, building strategic alliances/relationships
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Experience with strategic roles in related industries, including 4-5 years of experience as a senior strategy consultant
• Experience with competitive and portfolio strategy
• Demonstrated ability to present ideas and directions that lead others to action; demonstrate strong listening, written, and oral communication skills
• Project management experience
• Advanced Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) skills and Microsoft Project basic skills
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
• Experience supporting senior-level leaders/executives
• Be a self-starter with the ability to acquire new concepts and skills quickly
• Critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly recognize and resolve problems
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
• Well-developed organizational and prioritization skills
• Ability to execute in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
• Ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 7-10 years of relevant experience with strategic roles in related industries preferred
• MBA or Executive MBA preferred
• International experience and experience in other industries beyond Transportation
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• General office environment, with the ability to travel to onsite locations
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $165,833-$214,920. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employees assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employees base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
