The preferred hiring amount will be between $17.01 – $22.83 an hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position. This position functions independently and as part of a team performing duties related to grounds and turf maintenance in city parks, school grounds, right-of-ways and other City properties. This position is essential to maintaining an extremely effective team that follows defined schedules requiring skilled labor with a high level of responsibility. In addition, this position operates specialized equipment such as tractors and a backhoe. May supervise the work of staff, which may include voluntary, temporary and benefited. The position currently serves within the Turf Operations Section, but may serve/report to Construction Operations and other divisions within Parks and Recreation.
Minimum Requirements:
-Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
-At least three years of experience in a related field;
-Possession of a valid, appropriate driver’s permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be eligible to operate a City vehicle. (To view

-Required to obtain a Certified Pesticide Technician License;
-Must have the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Supplemental college level or technical/vocational school course work in related subjects;
-At least one year of experience in a lead/supervisory position;
-VDOT Flagger certification within 6 months of hire;
