Position:  Product Development Engineer
Location:  Troy, VA
Summary:
Har-Tru, LLC is looking for a Product Development Engineer who will take an idea of a mechanical and electrical system (a potential product concept) and create a design concept, (functional and manufacturable product providing specifications for the product, designing a virtual product in 3D CAD, assembling functional prototypes, conducting design reviews, and performing) testing to ensure product meets the company and customer requirements including functionality, cost, and quality. Products will include electro-mechanical systems. Will work with manufacturing, purchasing, and engineering teams to ensure handoff allows for a successful product launch.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Market research to identify the requirements, demand, and potential competition
Conceptualize a new product and define the metrics for a product’s success (product cost, size, function, etc.)
Develop a prototype (proposed design) using 3D modeling software (Inventor or Solidworks)
Create a working prototype.
Select the best materials which meet stakeholders’ expectations like budget, quality, environmental concerns.
Develop an FMEA to address potential problems and create a change implementation plan.
Perform a Process Capability Analysis to ensure the product can repeatability be manufactured within the specification limit.
Ensure Good Documentation Practice (GDP) is followed for each iteration or revision change.
Consider manufacturing limitations with the design and that components will be reliably available.
Develop and maintain product documentation (work instructions, build of materials, assembly drawings, electrical drawings, specification sheet, installation, and maintenance manual, etc.)
Develop test fixtures, procedures, and record keeping for quality checks.
Hand off to manufacturing, purchasing, and marketing teams
Job Requirements:
BS in Engineering
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
5 years of experience is required.
Experience in Manufacturing, Product development, or R&D is needed.
Experience in 3D modeling software (Inventor or Solid works)
Excellent understanding of the manufacturing process such as tolerancing, materials, welding, milling, CNC, lathes, and plasma or laser cutting
(Previous experience in product development)
Hands on experience in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems.
Experience with performing a Process Capability Analysis
Ability to technically write and present reports to various levels of the organization.
Must possess the ability to work independently with minimal oversight while maintaining focus on the project scope.
Excellent understanding of Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
