This position plays an important role in keeping Nicollet County’s 300-plus miles of roads safe. The objective is to operate a variety of vehicles and equipment to repair County highways, bridges, and parks. Job duties also include performing routine vehicle maintenance, loading and unloading materials, inspecting vehicles for safety issues, and performing related manual labor.
We currently have two (2) positions available. One will work out of the Lafayette location, the other out of Klossner.

Operates heavy equipment, which may include tandem axle dump trucks, motor graders, tractors, and/or other equipment as listed above.

Inspects, maintains, fills out various inspection reports, and performs basic maintenance and repairs to equipment and shop facilities.

Performs a variety of duties requiring manual labor including crack filling, bituminous patching, tile repairs, brush cutting, shoveling materials, flagging traffic, picking up debris, grounds maintenance, washing trucks and equipment, and/or related highway maintenance duties.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements In order to be considered for this position, we require High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and two years of heavy equipment operator experience. We will consider candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. A Class “A” Minnesota Driver’s license (manual transmission license) is required. Nicollet County will provide paid training for the new employee to obtain a Class A Minnesota Driver’s license within the first six months of employment.
