New River Electrical is nationwide, 100% employee-owned electrical contractor, dedicated to exceeding the high voltage construction and maintenance needs of our electrical utility and industrial customers.
Position Summary
New River Electrical is searching for a Business Intelligence Developer to serve as a consultant for various departments to evaluate, plan, and implement process improvements for improved practices and organizational effectiveness. This position focuses on utilizing software to improve efficiency and effectiveness, which drives cost savings. The Business Intelligence Developer consults with internal customers to identify business requirements and assist in workflow improvements utilizing technology. Develops solutions allowing internal customers to understand business metrics and make data-driven decisions. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Technology & Communications.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Collect and analyze data from multiple sources, translating business data into usable information for operational needs.
• Meet with internal customers to drive process improvement and create efficiencies through improved workflows with documented solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain BI solutions supporting internal customers, utilizing Power BI and other business intelligence tools.
• Lead the development, design methodology, and standards for reports and dashboards using Power BI best practices to provide insightful data metrics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data-driven insights and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop, maintain, and refine SQL views, tables, workbooks, and datasets necessary for reporting activities.
• Participate in the management, administration, upgrades, and patching of systems utilized for business intelligence and reporting.
• Maintain the health of any production databases (Microsoft SQL, MYSQL, etc.).
• Address and remedy any issues with existing reports developed in Crystal Reports.
• Identify the data internal customers need and present it in a helpful and valuable way.
• Build front-end platforms that present data to users quickly and logically.
• Lend guidance and instruction to power users, document new solutions, and define and explain workflows and procedures.
• Develop and maintain training materials, technical documentation, standards, and procedures.
• Provide ongoing training and support of applications to internal customers.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a Business Intelligence or Computer Science-related field with at least five years of progressive work experience.
• Solid understanding of relational databases and data modeling concepts.
• Knowledge of data visualization best practices and principles.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to Excel, Access, Power BI, Power Query, Power Apps, and VBA.
• Strong experience in dashboard development and administration using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft SQL development.
• Demonstrated knowledge and documentation and flowcharting techniques.
• Experience building web content front ends utilizing Python or equivalent tools.
• Experience setting up automated data refresh of dashboards.
• Demonstrated experience in process improvement, including leading and facilitating projects with a record of successful implementation.
• Excellent oral and written communication capabilities.
• Knowledgeable in database management and security.
• Commitment to lifelong learning through continual improvement, researching/studying disciplines relevant to this position.
• Strong interpersonal capabilities and ability to work cross-functionally with other leaders in the organization.
• Experience with reporting and analysis tools and front-end development.
• Must have strong problem-solving skills.
Travel
Travel 1-2 weeks per quarter is possible.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged period of time.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
