If you are an Engineering leader looking for an opportunity to make an impact to the business and develop teams, Emerson's Discrete Automation group has a great opportunity for you! The VP of Engineering and New Product Development will be based in our Charlottesville, Virginia, and will be responsible for advising and leading all aspects of the global Discrete Automation's Controls & Software product development organization. The VP will lead and develop growing teams of software, hardware, embedded software, and test engineers developing the Controls & Software portfolio of products, including PACSystems programmable logic controllers, IO, Industrial PC’s, motion, safety, Edge products and the next generation All in One PLC programming suite.
AS THE VP of Engineering and New Product Development, YOU WILL:

Be responsible for setting the direction and strategy for 4 engineering centers; Charlottesville, VA, Augsburg (Germany), Hyderabad and Pune (India).

Drive collaboration across all locations to deliver the best business outcome for Emerson Discrete Automation's Controls & Software.

Operate as a key member of the Discrete Automation executive team, collaborating to set strategic direction and goals to grow the business.

Participate in and execute Strategic Priorities set out by the business team.

Interact and work cross-functionally to receive input, tackle problems, share practices, and understand the impact of initiatives.

Implement standard engineering practices across all world areas to align engineering priorities with business needs. Provide the technical expertise and resources to allow field and factory problems to be solved in an efficient manner.

Provide leadership, management, and mentorship to all engineering team members. Develop organizational structure that optimizes engineering resources. Build robust succession plans and paths for engineering technical career advancement

Empower teams of engineers to deliver at peak performance in a fast-paced, open, and exciting environment.

Champion a culture of innovation

Work with technology, product management & manufacturing teams to prioritize, resources, execute and deliver programs to schedule and budget.

Collaborate with product management to define product requirements and set priorities.

Deliver Engineering efficiency, ensuring optimum resource utilization through sophisticated techniques such as Agile development and Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment.

Passionately seek, run and lead dedicated teams of engineers to staff a pipeline of growth programs.

Provide concise reporting of schedules, resource loading, risks, and status throughout all stages of product development.

Drive continuous improvement in team communications, accountability, efficiency, and predictability.

Take ownership of budget planning & tracking, salary planning, and people reviews.

Engage in and drive corporate initiatives, such as Cyber Security and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion throughout the Controls & Software engineering organization.
WHO YOU ARE:
You Provide leadership for customer and internal product development programs and ensure our technical approach satisfies marketplace/customer requirements. You anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders. You develop and implement plans and lead resources to ensure that product development, schedule, technical and cost objectives are met. You consistently achieve results under challenging circumstances and have a proven record for establishing capacity and capability. You evaluate and implement new technologies into product designs. You develop and maintain engineering procedures and systems that conform with group policies and assure uniformity and consistency. Most importantly, you build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

15+ years’ experience in international technical industries

10+ years’ experience with leading teams and programs

Proven track record to represent the business in front of customers and suppliers

Established proactive and inclusive approach to operational and organization change.

Proactive engagement in diversity of hires, individual contributors, and leadership roles, within the engineering organization.

Experience leading and developing top talent - engineers/college graduates and co-ops and interns

Validated change management skills and strong focus on collaboration

Can-do demeanor and high energy level

Strong communications and interpersonal skills

Skills and experience in working across multiple geographic locations (i.e., Americas, Europe, Asia) in multi-site collaborative developments

A collaborative, influencing, and open-minded approach, leading through personal and individual thought leadership while recognizing and adopting good ideas from others

Proven track record understanding and accommodating cultural sensitivities around the globe.

Able to travel 30% to meet business needs

Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Experience leading teams delivering sophisticated technical programs, preferably globally.

Exposure to Controls & Systems products and programs.
