The Advanced Practice Provider works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. The Advanced Practice Provider is a highly visible position that is always responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, physicians and other visitors he/she encounters, both in person and on the phone. Responsibilities Responsibilities This position is primarily assigned to the acute care hospital setting at the Edgewood location but may include duties at other sites, namely Florence and Fort Thomas locations. This position will support St Elizabeth's Physicians' mission. Primary responsibilities will be to collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team caring for emergency general surgery, trauma and critically ill patients, managing both their acute and chronic health care needs. The APP will demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, with the ability to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for complex trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care patients from admission to discharge and in the pre- and post-hospital setting. The APP must demonstrate clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgement, and professionalism. The APP must demonstrate compliant documentation in a timely manner in accordance with both the standard policy of SEP and of the Acute Care Surgery team. The APP must be available to work some weekends The APP should be aware of the possible future need to cover night call. The APP will be required to participate in coverage of the outpatient office setting for patients presenting with emergency general surgery, trauma and critical care follow-up. Perform appropriate history and physicals for complex, acute, critical, and chronically ill patients Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Monitor the effectiveness of interventions Engage in active communication with the daily physician of record for the clinical care team as to patient care interventions and results of testing. Maintain accurate and timely medical records on a daily basis. Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care. Make appropriate referrals when needed under the guidance of the daily physician of record for the team Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans Answer EPIC staff messages from the outpatient setting in a timely fashion on a daily basis and provide timely documentation as to the communication. Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice Participate in research and team development projects Participate in education of nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students and medical students Maintain self-direction in terms of personal usage of vacation, sick leave, and annual holiday leave while working with other APP in the division to maintain adequate service line coverage. Perform related duties based on departmental needs Qualifications Current and valid RN license to practice in the State of KY Graduation from an ANA approved NP program or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program from the Accreditation Review Commission of Education for the Physician Assistant. Three years minimal nursing experience Certification as a PA by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants BLS and ACLS certified ATLS certification ideal or to be obtained within six months of hire Critical care experience favorable but not a must About St. Elizabeth St. Elizabeth Physicians is a physician led multi-specialty physician group organization consisting of 451 physicians, 244 advanced practice providers and more than 2,200 non-provider associates.
