Job Description
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Education Support Specialist III position to work as a Course Coordinator.
The purpose of the Course Coordinator position is to provide for the delivery and maintenance of career and technical courses that are routinely offered on an ongoing basis, including workshops, seminars, and related business activities. The incumbent will be responsible for the operation, improvement, and ongoing success of assigned courses. The incumbent will be assigned a slate of open-enrollment courses/programs to manage and will be expected to support other operations, including Corporate Training as necessary. Planning, scheduling, logistical support, faculty hiring and support, enrollment management, and the successful operation, oversight and follow-up with courses are key responsibilities. Key responsibilities also include curricular support, customer service, and continuous improvement.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business or education or the equivalent combination of education, certifications, training, and experience. Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite products, student records systems, or other related productivity software to manage and share data in an efficient and effective manner. Experience tracking and analyzing data for reporting outcomes. Experience meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment managing multiple priorities; including project-oriented planning and scheduling experience. Record keeping and the ability to identify, analyze, and use accurate data to inform continuous improvement. Experience interpreting, applying, and explaining administrative policies and procedures. Experience applying principles and processes for improving customer and personal services. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for working with faculty, students, business and industry clients. Ability to plan, schedule, and collaborate with others to meet goals. Demonstrated history of proactively solving problems and a pattern of can-do action.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of community college functions preferred, including operations and services in an open enrollment non-credit training environment; and of rules, regulations and policies governing community colleges; and of scheduling programs and classes. Ability to learn and perform tasks accurately using the Workforce Enterprise System ( WES ) and PeopleSoft. Working knowledge of VCCS and Workforce processes, policies and procedures, familiarity with college departments, and experience with WES database, PeopleSoft and Lumens registration systems or related software. Demonstrated competency recruiting students directly or through the establishment of key community relations. Subject matter expertise in one or more of the area's in- demand industry sectors (healthcare, IT, business).
