The Science Museum of Western Virginia is a vibrant center for discovery and learning, engaging our community through interactive science experiences that inspire curiosity and creativity. We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Exhibits Technician to join our team.
Job Description:
As an Exhibits Technician, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance, installation, and de-installation of the Museum's exhibits. Your expertise will ensure that all exhibits are functional, safe, and engaging for our visitors.
Responsibilities:
• Inspect, maintain, and repair a variety of interactive exhibits, ensuring all are safe, clean, and functioning correctly.
• Assist in the setup and de-installation of exhibits, including handling, mounting, and installing objects, graphics, and signage.
• Collaborate with curatorial, design, and education staff to develop and implement exhibit enhancements.
• Maintain inventory of exhibit components and materials.
• Provide technical support for exhibit-related special events and programs.
• Assist with the training of museum staff and volunteers on the operation of exhibits.
• Regularly communicate with museum staff about exhibit status and maintenance needs.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with museum standards and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
• Associate's degree or equivalent experience in a technical field such as engineering, electronics, or industrial design.
• Previous experience in exhibit fabrication or maintenance, preferably in a museum setting.
• Proficient in using a variety of tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
• Knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
• Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
