Salem Veteran Affairs (VA) Medical Center  is seeking an INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGIST to join our exemplary team of medical professionals providing superior care to our country’s veterans!
The Radiologist will be board eligible/board certified by the American Board of Radiology and have specialty training in Vascular & Interventional Radiology. This position is administratively and clinically responsible to the Chief of Radiology.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
• Facilitates the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, Medical Center staff, and management.
• Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete required evaluations.
• Engages in discussions of treatment plans with patients, family members, and other involved parties as appropriate, while following COBRA and HIPAA guidelines.
• Participates as a peer reviewer when requested.
• Participates in the rotation as a third call attending
• Candidates would be proficient in peripheral vascular interventions (including angioplasty, stent placements and thrombolysis) embolization procedures (such as GI bleed, prostatic arteries , gastric varices and chemoembolization), renal procedures such as nephrostomy, dialysis related interventions , CT /US guided procedures(biopsies, drainages, aspirations) , spine interventions (pain management ESI and vertebroplasty/ kyphoplasty, lumbar puncture, myelograms), intercostal nerve blocks, Biliary procedures, TIPS procedure, Endovascular Aortic Repair, and Radiofrequency ablations (of the tumors of kidneys, liver and lung).
• The candidate has the responsibility of review of IR orders for appropriateness and feasibility, pre-procedure preparation, knowledge and technical skill in image guided procedures, post-procedure care and appropriate documentation in CPRS. Coordination of care within the IR team, with other staff in the medical center, and occasionally with providers outside the medical center is an essential function.
• The consultative role encompasses patient chart and imaging record review, and patient assessment that integrates the value of imaging and radiology procedures in patient management
• Work Schedule: Will be required to maintain a Monday through Friday tour, with assigned call sufficient to cover the needs of the service
The Salem VA Health Care System (HCS) is in the City of Salem, Virginia, and serves Veterans throughout the state. This Level 1c tertiary referral center is a teaching hospital providing a variety of patient care services with a full range of medical sub-specialties, including a full time ED, Urgent care, Cath lab, Endoscopy Suite, and Interventional Pain Service. Authorized beds include: 182 general medical, surgical, and psychiatry; 90 Extended Care Rehabilitation Center (with a 10 bed Short Stay Rehabilitation Center); 26 Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (10 long term Substance Abuse).
As a teaching hospital, Salem VA Medical Center provides a full range of educational experiences, with a state-of-the-art Simulation Learning Center and a cooperative research service supporting Educational, Population, Clinical, and Basic Science research. Our medical center has 3 active medical school affiliations with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in addition to several smaller affiliations.
