Job Summary
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our Forensic Services within the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) division of agency.
The Forensics Services campus in St. Peter is comprised of the Forensic Mental Health Program and the Forensic Nursing Home. Forensics Services provides mental health evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety. This is a safe and secure treatment environment.
This role serves as a critical support team member to the Forensic Evaluation Department. Under limited supervision, this role has direct department and statewide impact by serving the Minnesota Court system and internal forensic assessment services in Direct Care & Treatment - Forensic Services effectively.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Review and process Court orders in a variety of data collection programs to assist with case management and assignment of forensic evaluations
• Request, manage, and review medical records with the use of a Court order or release of information
• Contact individuals or interested parties in the community and coordinate evaluations ensuring forensic evaluations are conducted as ordered
• Correspond with interested parties and stakeholders of the Courts regarding forensic evaluations and use problem-solving strategies to resolve potential coordination issues
• Ensure timely submission of Court ordered evaluations.
• On a limited basis, provide psychometric services upon request by the Forensic Examiners, which includes test administration and scoring of highly technical forensic instruments for individuals being served at the Forensic Services or by the Forensic Network
• On a limited basis, complete complex chart reviews of cases.
• Organize, code, and enter data into databases to facilitate its retrieval, manipulation, and analysis
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications To qualify, the candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience and be able to demonstrate the following:
• Use of electronic systems to enter, track, and query date/information
• Interpretation of Court orders to ensure compliance with Court directives
• Effective time management skills and ability to manage competing responsibilities and deadlines
• Management of schedules and coordinating appointments
• Ability to review and request medical records
Preferred Qualifications • Background in psychology or social work
• Experience collecting, organizing, analyzing, and summarizing forensic evaluation data
• Experience researching discovery information and conducting collateral interviews
• Experience drafting and/or issuing reports, memos, or other formal documents
• Previous experience working with individuals with diverse backgrounds in a correctional/forensic setting
