Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Community Development Lender
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY:
The Community Development Lender is responsible for developing and cultivating loans that advance the goals of Community Development such as affordable housing, revitalization, community services, economic development and job creation/retention. This position will also educate, implement, and foster relationships with various community groups, government agencies, and local municipalities to advance the community development goals within the bank and the communities and stakeholders within the bank’s footprint.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Actively maintain relationships with new and existing borrowers, key stakeholders, financial partners, CDFIs, MDI’s, referral sources, and other bank constituents to increase the bank’s visibility in low and moderate income communities; Consistently provide excellent client services and maintain long-lasting relationships
• Participate in various business development activities by building purposeful relationships to procure loans that create and preserve affordable housing, revitalization, stabilization, and economic development for community partner candidates and to initiate and support neighborhood revitalization focused in the bank’s footprint
• Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of products and services while serving as the subject matter expert for community development within the market
• Maintain high standards of client satisfaction and quality and ensure sales/originator systems and workflows are efficiently controlled
• Work with clients to gather financial, operational, and organizational materials in preparation of loan applications and remain the primary point of contact for the client for the duration of the loan process
• Conduct loan/project underwriting and due diligence, creating a clear and compelling narrative of loan strengths, weaknesses, and mitigating factors
• Address any credit quality issues of existing loans in an expeditious and appropriate manner to mitigate potential loan losses
• Work with loan closing specialists in preparation of commitment letters and review of loan closing documents
• In collaboration with the CRA & Fair Lending team, develop partnerships with local community partners who are keenly tied to the target group of low to moderate income residents (e.g. non-profit organizations, government agencies, community development corporations, and local groups and associations)
• Participate in community outreach programs to foster a strong CRA culture and program
• Develop community contacts that benefit the Bank's overall objective of meeting credit needs of the communities the Bank services, including low and moderate income neighborhoods as required by Community Reinvestment Act
• Recognize, share, and celebrate Community Development stories and successes
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Prior experience providing technical assistance for community organizations, nonprofits, or community development financial institutions required
• Prior experience in financial services lending and business development required
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Intermediate underwriting skill for financial services lending
• Intermediate knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding credit applications, Fair Lending, and the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)
• Advanced business development skills
• Advanced relationship building skills
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills
• Intermediate understanding of credit memos
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Standing, walking, bending and stooping required
• Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
• Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds
• May be asked to work supplemental hours periodically
• Travel required at times during and after business hours
