Job Duties:
The Disability Determination Services Division (DDS) of the Virginia Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is seeking a DDS Supervisor - Training Unit. Supervises a staff of trainee Disability Determination Analysts and/or Disability Determination Analysts who need remedial work who adjudicate claims for disability benefits under all programs of the Social Security Act, as amended, and ensures that claims are processed as expeditiously and accurately as possible consistent with the division’s goals for quality, production and cost.
Coordinates preparation of Appeals Summaries and Senior Analyst participation in Medicaid due process hearings to ensure accurate and professional explanations are given of DDS actions. Also supervises Case Consultants who assist in the training.
Consults with individual unit members regarding casework and advises appropriate actions to be taken on the claims in accordance with applicable policies. Provides direction and training to unit staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Considerable experience in the adjudication of disability claims filed under the Social Security Act, as amended.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Social Security disability program and extensive knowledge of medical body systems including major disease processes, treatment regimens, clinical signs, symptoms, laboratory findings, medical terminology, and degree of impact of medically determinable impairments on the mental and physical function of adults and children.
Demonstrated ability to:
• Accurately interpret, apply and impart complex policies and procedures.
• Independently review and adjudicate, if necessary, single-decision-maker claims which involve independent assessment of the evidence, completion of all assessment and transmittal forms without medical input or sign-off on the decision.
• Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Analyze information, reach logical conclusions, and make feasible recommendations for the consistent and efficient operation of a statewide program.
• Review and/or direct the work of others; ability to organize large volumes of work and maintain time frames and goals.
• Effectively utilize position related computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
• An undergraduate degree in a human service or medically related discipline or closely related field preferred.
