Job Description
* To oversee and monitor adherence to HIM compliance program
* To educate HIM, CDI, physicians and ancillary departments regarding appropriate documentation and accurate coding practices.
* To oversee internal coding audits for compliance and educational purposes.
* To assist and appeal DRG denials, medical necessity issues, RAC and other government or commercial audits.
Job Duties
Management of internal audit program for coding including coordination with Quality Management and other internal customers using HIM coded/abstracted data for quality reporting purposes.
Management of coding compliance education and quality coding internal reviews. Includes auditing of new coding hires, on-going quality reviews of all coding staff, focused compliance reviews of IP & OP initiatives and coordination and presentation of internal coding audit results.
Coordination of external coding quality reviews and presentation of results to internal customers.
Coordinate coding updates and education for coding staff in conjunction with Corporate Coding Manager.
Assists Director of Coding & CDI and Corporate Coding Manager with various projects as needed.
Supervises and administers departmental personnel policies and procedures consistent with SEH policies for equal treatment of employees. Acts as mentor to all staff under his/her direction. Effectively manages difficult personnel matters, including preparation and issuance of disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Associate or Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree
CCS, RHIT or RHIA credentials
Specialized Knowledge: Prospective Payment Systems, ICD/CPT/HCPCS Coding systems.
Proficiency in personal computers and Windows applications.
Exceptional written/verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of encoding/abstracting/grouping/compliance software.
Kind and Length of Experience:
5+ years' hospital production coding experience.
