SummaryThe Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center is recruiting for a full time Pharmacy Technician to function as an Outpatient Automated Dispensing Pharmacy Technician. This position is located in Pharmacy Service.The outpatient automation pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting the automation utilized in the Outpatient Pharmacy.This position is located at 3200 Vine Street Cincinnati, OH but may be required to visit the CBOCs, surrounding clinics, and Ft. Clarification from the agencyOpen to current, permanent Cincinnati VA Medical Center employee's only.VideosDutiesThe outpatient automation pharmacy technician is a certified technician who provides daily oversight, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all Outpatient Pharmacy automation, equipment, software, and hardware. This includes but is not limited to the Scriptpro dispensing system, QMatic, Eyecons, UPS and USPS software and hardware, and automated dispensing cabinets. This position functions primarily in the Outpatient care areas of Pharmacy Service. The incumbent ensures automation capabilities are maximized.Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties include but are not limited to the following:AutomationServes as the expert on pharmacy automation.Researches and proposes new and updated automation based on the needs of the service.Coordinates the technical aspect of Outpatient Pharmacy drug distribution activities to ensure standard operating procedures are in alignment with automation capabilities so that efficiencies are maximized. Incumbent is instrumental in recommending and implementing changes for the improvement of the workflow, work methods and priorities involved within the drug distribution system.Serves as the automation expert receiving minimal guidance on the technical aspects of the automation. Demonstrates critical systems thinking in automation implementation and process improvement initiatives.Ensures that adequate off-line inventory levels of prepackaged medication packaged through automation are maintained.Coordinates deliveries to automated dispensing machines managed by the outpatient pharmacy.Assists the procurement technicians by scanning the automated dispensing system supply bins to order inventory. Adds new and deletes obsolete pharmaceutical products to maintain current inventory in the automated dispensing systems.Runs, reviews, and maintains automation reports for ongoing quality assurance and for biannual review, and maintains automated equipment user files.Resolves problems and complaints regarding Outpatient Pharmacy automation. Troubleshoots problems regarding automation, equipment, software, and hardware when production is compromised, alerts appropriate personnel, and actively participates in resolution. Works directly with the vendor's technical and clinical support, Pharmacy, and Medical Center OI&T to troubleshoot and resolve issues and maximize utilization.Ensures that equipment is cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer recommendations and local policies and procedures to minimize downtime.Trains and orients staff involved in operating the automation equipment and provides them with access to needed software and hardware as appropriate.Collaborates with the other automation pharmacy technician, Information Pharmacist, and other pharmacy employees to maximize the efficient and safe utilization of automation.Works directly with other health care services locally as well as VISN and VHA employees and services to maximize utilization of the automation equipmentActively participates in the writing, updating, training, and implementation of facility policy and procedure pertaining to automation equipment.Prevention and Management of Medication Errors and Adverse Drug EventsInspects assigned ward stock areas in accordance with facility policy and procedure.Accurately and efficiently prepacks medications when required assigning correct lot numbers and expiration dates and accurately recording information.Accurately prepares non-sterile compounded preparations, following facility policy and procedure, standardized formulas, and appropriate calculations.Adds medications and supplies to pharmacy inventory and ward stock areas by rotating stock and stocking items in appropriate locations within a reasonable time after receipt.Removes expired medications from stock and follows facility policy and procedure for disposal.Demonstrates ability to accurately navigate and utilize basic pharmacy functions in applicable software such as Vista, CPRS, BCMA, etc. Proficiently uses other computer programs such as Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access), Sharepoint, etc. Communicates medication errors, adverse events, allergies, non-formulary and restricted status, and any other medication order related problems for clarification to the pharmacist and/or supervisor as necessary.Assists in the quality management of Pharmacy Service by participating in process action teams and continually seeking ways to improve the service provided to patients and other customers.The outpatient automation pharmacy technician works under the supervision of the Outpatient Technician Supervisor and receives guidance and direction from the outpatient pharmacy supervisor, and assistant chief, outpatient pharmacy.Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pmTelework: N/AVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: 000000Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not AuthorizedFinancial Disclosure Report: Not requiredRequirements Conditions of EmploymentYou must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
