JOB
The Fun Camp Counselor supervises groups of participants enrolled in Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Summer Camp Programs and activities including, but not limited to, general summer camp activities, visits to museums, zoos, recreational activities, movie theaters, and parks. Assists the Program Supervisor with planning and carrying out activities. Works under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor and the general supervision of the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director and the Parks and Recreation Director. Shift may include: Weekdays, mornings, afternoons, or evenings Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm from May 29th - August 11th The Town of Blacksburg is an EEO Employer M/F/D/V

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Assists with the development and implementation of daily routine, schedule, programming and organizations of all summer camp activitiesMaintains control and discipline of a group of children at all times and in all locationsWorks closely with the Program Supervisor in implementing scheduled activitiesMust enjoy and appreciate being with children on a daily basisAssists in preparing required reports and formsPrepares areas and locations in use during summer camp programs; obtains and stores equipment in proper area in an organized mannerEnforces all safety rulesUpholds and enforces department policiesReports potential physical hazards in unsafe conditions of the facility and equipment to the Program CoordinatorEffectively communicates problems to the Program Supervisor, Department Program Coordinator, and Department staff or othersAdministers lifesaving and emergency techniques covered by certified trainingTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: All types of recreational supplies including but not limited to balls, bats, phone, emergency equipment, two-way radio, etc.
