Who We Are: The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Distrcts (RCAHD) are two health districts in the Commonwealth of Virgina under the Virginia Department of Health and employ approximately 140 staff. RCAHD encompasses the cities of Covington, Roanoke, and Salem and the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, and Roanoke.
What we do: RCAHD, which provides services from nine office locations, serves a combined population of over 278,400 people throughout both rural and urban environments and works to promote and encourage healthy behavior, protect the public against environmental hazards, prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, respond to disasters, assist communities in recovery and assure the quality and accessibility of health services for all members of the communities.
We are seeking a highly motvated PH Nurse Sr. for the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts located at 1502 Williamson Rd. NE, Roanoke, VA 24012.
This is a Full-Time Salaried position with full state benefits.

What you'll do:
Provides non-supervisory leadership and serves as a nursing program expert in one or more nursing services/programs district wide. Develops program goals, objectives, policies and procedures, reports program performance to funding sources and agency staff, serves as primary contact for staff and external inquirers about the program/service, monitors service delivery for compliance to applicable policies and procedures, and promotes the program to increase utilization and public awareness. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develops and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. May supervise support staff. Actions require licensure as a RN by state code.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure as an RN in Virginia is required.
Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR, able to be fit tested and perform fit testing for other staff in accordance with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) {Ref.2} regulations
Experience functioning in a leadership role; experience and ability to function independently in the home/clinic/community/school settings and prioritize workload is required.
Exercises sound nursing judgment; effective verbal, written, interpersonal/physical assessment skills is required.
Experience and ability to enter, review, analyze data and statistics and produce reports and/or recommendations from such information; ability to work in a fast paced, data driven environment is required.
Experience and knowledge of nursing process, health maintenance, disease processes, physical and behavioral sciences, case management process and basic principles of epidemiology is required.
Work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team is required.
Experience and ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds is required.
May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
Must be able to demonstrate decision making skills, teaching, interviewing, counseling skills and the ability to analyze problems/situations and problem solve is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in the use of computers and computer applications is preferred; including Internet, Microsoft Office, and Google Mail applications.
If working with the EPI response team, Certified in Infection Control (CIC) preferred and experience in hospital or long term care facility infection control.
BSN or MSN or MPH is preferred.
Excellent communication, data interpretation and computer skills is preferred.
Public Health experience is preferred.
