GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Vehicle Safety Inspectors are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of automotive equipment. Typical responsibilities range from routine maintenance tasks such as fluid exchanges, to more complex repairs requiring diagnosis and installation of parts. In addition, the employee is responsible for inspecting and repairing all vehicles in accordance with the state's requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Provide accurate, high level and timely vehicle diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs.
* Conduct thorough and accurate inspections in the area of repair, or at the request of the customer, and document with recommended services on the PMA.
* Promptly deliver required service or repairs thereby meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
* Test drive vehicles before and after repairs to ensure functionality and overall safety.
* Complete work orders and related paperwork timely and correctly.
* Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices in automotive repair
* Inspect vehicles according to the state's requirements for Vehicle Safety Inspection
* Identifies and promotes our company culture of cooperation and collaboration among all technicians. By doing so the Tire Discounter technician is both a teacher and student regardless of tenure.
* Assist other teammates with other tasks as needed, to include tire installation, mounting, balancing and rotation, in order to consistently deliver on our minimal expectation of outstanding customer service.
* Maintain a clean and organized shop and equipment to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our customers and employees.
* Actively participate in company required training to include achieving required ASE certifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
* Strong Customer Service Experience.
* Strong organization and communication skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
* Ability to consistently follow policies and procedures.
* Ability to operate machines and equipment used in the automotive mechanical trade.
* Diagnostic scanner experience is a plus.
* Ability to perform all tasks with extreme accuracy and in a safe manner.
* Desire and ability to work in a team environment
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* ASE certifications preferred, willingness to attain certification is required.
* Minimum two years automotive repair experience required.
* Must have at least 1 year of experience as a Virginia State Inspector
* Valid State Inspector's license
* Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Must be able to perform job functions that require lifting and/or carrying single items weighing at least 75 lbs.
* This position may require other activities such as pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, climbing, and reaching.
* Ability to stand or work in a crouched position for prolonged periods of time.
* Must be able to climb (ladders or stairs) and work in an environment with loud noises and exposure to changes in weather.
