The City of Roanoke is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Technician IV to serve in the Fleet Division of General Services. The ideal person is an experienced, self-motivated individual to perform skilled mechanical work on heavy and light power-driven equipment. Serves as expert resource in the guidance and instruction of the work of subordinate mechanics and service workers. Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services the full range of power-driven equipment used by the City including diesel or gasoline engine equipment, air compressors, pump apparatus and aerial truck hydraulic systems. High school diploma or GED; one to three years related experience and/or training in repairing heavy power-driven equipment; diesel and gasoline; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. State Inspection license & Class B CDL preferred. have a Class B CDL within 12 months of employment. Must attain three ASE certifications within 2 years of employment. Required to be on-call after regular work hours on a standby basis.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
SUMMARY Supervises and participates in the work of a crew engaged in highly skilled maintenance, and construction activities. Performs work in multiple skilled trades. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following depending on area of assignment. Other duties may be assigned. Assigns and supervises the work of maintenance workers and technicians Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instruction from supervisor Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions Requisitions necessary equipment and materials Maintains time and material records and prepares simple reports Performs or assists in performing more difficult or skilled tasks May perform inspection of playgrounds and associated equipment Performs minor repair of buildings, doors, windows and floors, locks, cabinets, and similar items Makes repairs and renovations to fields and grounds including mowing, mulching, aeration, grading, seeding, and sodding Coordinates with other department operational and technical personnel in the performance of assigned tasks Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services the full range of power-driven equipment used by the City including diesel or gasoline engine equipment, air compressors, pump apparatus and aerial truck hydraulic systems. Coordinates with and advises the public on daily or emergency functions Performs trades work in multiple assigned areas at a Master level such as motor equipment repair, welding, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing Operates heavy and light equipment in snow removal Assists with special events, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed Knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations, guidelines, safety orders, departmental operating procedures and safety regulations sufficient to insure that work is performed in compliance with applicable law. Enforces sound safety and housekeeping practices. Follows safety rules/procedures; avoid known hazards in the work environment. Reviews safety procedures before beginning each job with known hazards. Safety first. Places avoidance of injury or property damage above all other job requirements. Follows established safety procedures May be required to wear some type of respiratory protection in the performance of their duties. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises a work crew in maintenance and construction operations within assigned department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
