About the College/Unit/Department
In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated research to the community.
Research is done on a wide range of commodities, including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia.
In 2004, a teaching program was initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position oversees all aspects of operations at the Plant Science Farm. The incumbent will interact with UGA scientists about the research being conducted and will plan, organize, supervise, and participate in the day-to-day operations of the farm. They will maintain records and data about the research being conducted, maintain equipment and buildings and perform any other duties that arise. This individual will be the sole contact for this farm, but will report to the Research Station Superintendent, who oversees all of the Tifton research farms.

• Identify plants as well as problems such as diseases, weeds, and insect pests.
• Inspect farm or ranch equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Inspect farm or ranch structures, such as buildings, fences, or roads, ordering repair or maintenance activities, as needed.
• Maintain financial, operational, production, or employment records for farms or ranches.
• Monitor activities such as irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, milking, breeding, or grading to ensure adherence to safety regulations or standards.
• Perform data entry and other clerical work as required for project completion.
• Select or purchase machinery, equipment, livestock, or supplies, such as seed, feed, fertilizer, or chemicals.
• Cut and prune trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants.
• Perform crop production operations, such as planning, tilling, planting, fertilizing, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting.
• Prepare, manipulate, and manage extensive databases.
Thorough knowledge of farm management and vegetable and row crops. Considerable knowledge of modern agricultural methods and experimental farming practices, farm equipment, materials and maintenance techniques. Ability to plan, organize and direct work of subordinate personnel and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with scientists, administrative personnel and fellow employees. Maintain records and prepare reports.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Plans, organizes, and manages the operation of a large farm with several major crops, including vegetables, turf grass, row crops, and energy crops.
• Farm management of the Plant Science Farm includes the TVP , RDC pivot, and Hort Hill. The individual interacts closely with scientists and technicians to implement field protocols, maintain farm aesthetics & facilities, machinery and equipment and provides recommendations for equipment and operating supplies.
• Provides support for a wide variety of research programs, experimental projects, and tests with research scientists.
