Job Description
Duties
The major duties include but are not limited to:
Reports and is accountable to the Maintenance and Operations Foreman for the satisfactory completion of all jobs assigned and all supervisory duties;
Reviews work of subordinates for quality control, technical adequacy, code-compliance and safety;
Provides immediate local supervision and hands-on technical assistance in the completion of repairs on major and emergency projects;
Performs work at the Master Electrician level in order to effectively train and verify the work of subordinate journeyman and apprentice electrical workers;
Supervises the safe and correct installation, maintenance and repair of the Medical Center's electrical equipment, substation, switchgear, underground primary lines, transformers and secondary electrical distribution systems;
Utilizes responsibility for the preventative maintenance, repair and certification of all elevators, fire alarm systems, emergency power systems, and electrical safety tests;
Establishes deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules and short and long-range plans developed;
Assigns and explains work requirements and operation instructions to subordinates and sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed;
Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources under own control to achieve the most effective work operations;
Reviews and analyzes work accomplishments, evaluates work progress, controls costs and anticipates and avoids possible problems by recommending corrective action to superiors;
Determines training needs and arranges for accomplishment of same; sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinates;
Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignments;
Investigates grievances and complaints, resolves them informally when appropriate and notifies superiors of those of a serious nature; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45am to 4:30pm
Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 authorized for 3 year commitment.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Subject to emergency call- in, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position may occasionally require time spent working in situations which expose employee to a potentially hazardous environment. These include electrical shock, falls, extreme weather conditions, etc. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing. This position may require the employee to use properly fitting safety equipment and clothing. Work may occur in conditions of extreme stress and tension resulting from need to maintain critical hospital equipment in optimum condition.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
