Description Performs clerical work in the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court. Issues marriage licenses, subpoenas, and notary public applications; administers oaths; processes civil suits. Inputs all data relating to documents filed in case files into automated indexing system. Records land records, assumed names certificates and military discharge paperwork. Prepares a variety of simple and routine reports. Scans and indexes deeds, wills, and other documents. Attends court sessions; swears witnesses in; tags exhibits; records and transcribes proceedings. Types abstracts of convictions for the Division of Motor Vehicles. Purchase office supplies. Responsible for maintaining records retention schedules. Serves as back up to Bookkeeping.  Performs supervisory duties when required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); four or more years experience, preferably in the legal field, two or more at the level of Deputy Court Clerk II; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree preferred.

Performs  clerical work in the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists the public, legal professionals and other government agencies with their requests and questions both in person and by phone
Issues marriage licenses, subpoenas, and notary public applications
Administers oaths
Processes civil suits
Inputs case file data into automated indexing and retrieval system
Records land records, assumed names certificates and military discharge papers
Provides copies of divorce decrees, wills, land records, marriages, court orders upon request
Probates wills, indexes settlement of accounts, debts and demands, tax certificates and estate inventories
Generates various reports
Indexes and scans documents
Purchase office supplies
Maintain records retention schedules
Serves as backup bookkeeper
Records and releases  civil and criminal judgments
Types orders
Attends court sessions, swears witnesses, tags exhibits and records and transcribes proceedings
Collects fines
Types abstracts of convictions for the Division of Motor Vehicles
May be required to perform supervisory duties when needed
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs supervisory duties when required.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); four or more years related experience, preferably in the legal field, two or more at the level of Deputy Court Clerk II; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Associates degree preferred.
Supplemental Information LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
