Director of Facilities Management(posted 9/28/22)Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Facilities Management. Using industry quality standards and best practices, the director is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and management of all facilities for a small, residential, historic campus. The director reports to the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer and supervises the Assistant Director of Facilities Management, and the managers of the Maintenance, Buildings, and Paint and Grounds services departments.The Director of Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day management of facilities personnel, budgets, and equipment; the development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures related to the maintenance and upkeep of all university facilities; and overseeing facilities projects. They are responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of energy management and utility systems and the ongoing integration of sustainable practices into campus operations to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. Additionally, they are responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and OSHA and environmental regulations. The director designs and implements strategies to improve administrative efficiency and effectiveness, leads the facilities staff to achieve division goals, and develops long-range plans to address deferred maintenance and meet ongoing needs of campus departments. The director attains goals by working hands-on with their direct reports and staff members and by building and maintaining positive relationships with all university constituencies.Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in a related field; minimum of five years of progressive related experience, preferably in a university environment; excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to demonstrate flexibility and adapt a team to changing priorities; and a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations. Applicants must be proven leaders who successfully worked hands-on with their team in an environment where relationships among and between university constituencies are critical for success, and have experience or certification in energy or utilities management.
