The CSAC-A Supervisee or CSAC-A is responsible for clinical and administrative activities relating to outpatient substance abuse referrals, providing substance use case management, assisting with sending out invites for group counseling, working with individuals, families, couples who are impacted by addiction. Services may be provided through Tele Services as well as through face-to-face direct contact.
The selected candidate must be CSAC-A Eligible or CSAC-A who is certified by the Virginia Board of Counseling to practice in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Virginia. Must have high school diploma or GED.
Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
• Utilize effective listening skills to establish rapport with patients, groups, couples, and family members to provide emotional support/encouragement, and engage family members in the service process.
• Provide individual case management sessions along with completing the required supporting documentation within your scope of practice that is recommended by the Virginia Board of Counseling and approved by the supervising Licensed Mental Health Professional .
• Initiate and provide ongoing communication with service professionals and attendance in Treatment team meetings to ensure coordination of care.
• Provide adjunct crisis intervention as necessary during available hours. Participate in educating patients on/implement alternative crisis contacts and planning as needed, and continually assess clients for increased service needs.
• Provide support and communicate effectively when transitions occur between services. Prepare clients and families for discharge as well as participate with treatment team in recommending higher levels of care when needed.
• Utilize various assessment instruments as needed within scope of expertise.
• Meet with/provide services as allowed by the Board of Counseling to patients as necessary to ensure success.
• Provide regular monitoring for patients to include assistance with learning and carrying out necessary treatment goals.
• Develop and implement treatment plans related to Substance Abuse Case management services with the help of the Licensed Mental Health Professional.
• Maintain an awareness of their areas of expertise, and an ability to staff or refer a case elsewhere if it becomes too complex or falls outside one's appropriate scope of practice. (Refrain from engaging in specific therapeutic interventions that require separate certification and or licensure).
