Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The CED Marketing and Communications Specialist is a 20-hour a week position that will support our Communications Director in creating, editing, and publishing content for digital and print media. We are seeking someone who is self-motivated with strong writing and interpersonal skills, a proven record of task management, and an interest in spatial design and how it impacts our world. The ideal incumbent will have a passion for storytelling with a journalistic approach, energized by research and following leads to create work that meets deadlines and exceeds expectations. CED is a multi-disciplinary college with a wide range of research and public service projects happening at the undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral level. We have many stories to tell, and this employee will play a crucial role in helping us share our work with the world!
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Proficient in typical office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
• Highly skilled in researching and reporting in order to develop engaging and impactful story content.
• Strong writing and proofreading skills, as well as visual storytelling abilities.
• Ability to self-motivate and take initiative to set and reach communication goals.
• Competent with digital platforms such as social media and websites.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with social media content management, scheduling, and analytics.
• Ability to prioritize and communicate on multiple projects while still adhering to deadlines.
• Familiar with Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

Content Creation:
• Participate in brainstorming creative and original ideas for online content.
• Write engaging captions for social media posts.
• Research, write, and publish stories to the CED website newsfeed.
• Collect and prioritize story suggestions from CED community and seek out additional stories related to CED values and efforts.
• Conceptualize compelling stories that will enhance the communication efforts of CED.
• Schedule and conduct interviews with faculty, students, or visiting lecturers when appropriate.
• Provide informative, well-written copy for various marketing materials and reports.
Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities
Online Content Maintenance:
• Complete general updates and edits to various website pages as requested.
• Ensure that linked resources on social media are relevant and routinely updated.
• Assist in maintaining our Loomly account.
• Create and schedule posts on CED social media accounts when necessary.
• Write captions that incorporate appropriate hashtags and engage not only CED students, but other viewers as well.
• Remain up to date on search engine optimization (SEO) best practices and maintain our online presence accordingly.
• Review and proof the written content of student-led communications.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities
Other:
• Attend and participate in PR Committee meetings, as well as monthly faculty and staff meetings.
• Maintain a consistent messaging strategy that adheres to CED and UGA's messaging standards.
• Review student-run communications to ensure they adhere to CED and UGA standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
