Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The role of the UGArden Farm Manager is to work with the UGArden Superintendent in managing and overseeing all day-to-day operations at the farm, including the supervision of volunteers and undergraduate students, and assisting faculty and graduate students who conduct activities at UGArden. They must also ensure proper safety protocols for all work performed on site. Specific tasks are listed below.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Farm or outdoor work experience.
• Intermediate knowledge of crop production practices.
• Experience supervising volunteers, students, or workers.
Physical Demands
• Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
• Operate farm equipment and use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
• Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Preparation and maintenance plants in tunnels, greenhouses, and fields.
This includes:
* Execute seeding plans for the upcoming season.
* Check watering.
* Perform regular fertilizing of all transplants in greenhouse (season based).
* Operate equipment to prepare plots for planting and plot turnover.
* Put out irrigation and fertilizer.
* Plant fields based on planting plans.
* Spray pesticides and maintain records.
* Winter prep (row covers, hoops, and high tunnel, irrigation needs).
Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities
Supervision of volunteers and interns.
This includes:
• Train interns to perform weekend watering duties.
• Instruct volunteers and interns based on the tasks that need to be completed such as weeding, planting, harvesting, equipment use (interns only).
• Monitor email or volunteer group requests and coordinate with regular weekly events and obligations.
• Publish volunteer events needed on EngageUGA.
• Maintain records of organizations who volunteer and number of volunteers.
Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities
Coordination of class visits and tours.
This includes:
• Coordinate volunteer requests with UGArden's calendar.
• Provide tours for groups and classes as needed.
• Assist with the farmers market that accompanies the Horticultural Entrepreneurship course and prep work.
• Prep for and assist as needed with Organic Agricultural Systems course.
• Supervise UGArden Interns.
• Provide harvest talks to on-farm classes as needed.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Management of harvest based on UGArden's partnership organizational needs.
This includes:
• Train new staff members, interns, and volunteers on harvest, washing, and storage procedures.
• Maintain accurate produce records.
• Coordinate with partnership organizations current and future.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Other:
• Train new staff members including our AmeriCorps VISTA and student workers.
• Monitor and respond to UGArden emails.
• Assist with Experience UGA as needed.
• Assist with other events as needed with partner organizations (Office of Sustainability, Campus Kitchen, etc.).
• Represent the farm with the HEC Food Scholars Project.
