Description: The Staff Dentist performs dental care in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and assists the Director in developing and implementing the dental program.

Responsibilities: PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY) 5% Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. � Provides care in the following disciplines of a general dental practice: diagnosis, preventive dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, restorative and oral surgery. - 20% � Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient�s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. - 5% � Examines patients, diagnoses dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others to carry out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers patients for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines. - 10% � Educates patients in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention. - 5% � Assists in the provision of continuing education and on-the-job-training to dental residents; AEGD resident supervision, and both clinical and didactic instruction. - 15% � Designs, develops and implements appropriate policies, protocols and procedures (as directed by Dental Director) in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards. - 5% � Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested. - 5% � Participates in short and long-term program planning, including development of goals and objectives. - 5% � Travels, when necessary, to fulfill the hospital�s needs. Attends meetings, as necessary, to represent the hospital and/or the Dental Department. 5% � Assists coordinating and integrating dental programs and services with other hospital programs and services for patient welfare. 5% � Clinically supervises Dental Assistants and Hygienists. 5% � Participates in recruitment/retention activities of the hospital, as necessary. 5% � Performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational, and programmatic goals and objectives, as directed by the Dental Director. - 5% | Review the physical demands and assign an overall average percentage of time this position performs these activities. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited dental school. | Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Ohio. ? Completion of ADA accredited AEGD or GPR residency program. ? Current BLS/ACLS certifications. (ALCS preferred) ? Medicaid provider number. | Previous experience in community health setting preferred.
