Position Summary
This is a professional position assigned the responsibility of coordinating the anatomy lab. The position is responsible for tasks involving lab maintenance, setting up the laboratory for classes, providing support to faculty and students enrolled in the anatomy classes or other classes using the lab, and for specimen preparation.
The employee is a member of the anatomy teaching team and is an assistant to the anatomy faculty. This person coordinates use of the lab with anatomy faculty and other potential users within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Training will be provided by the anatomists in the department and the anatomists are available to the employee for consultation on matters concerning the gross anatomy lab. The anatomist(s) provide assistance and consultation when needed for specimen preparation and lab set ups. The employee often works in the laboratory unaccompanied when a class is not in session. The employee is expected to demonstrate an increasing knowledge of anatomy gained through job activities and study. The employee is expected to maintain a clean and orderly anatomy laboratory suitable for unannounced tours by visiting faculty, upper administration or others.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
• Maintenance of the teaching laboratory, walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer, storerooms, and preparation areas.
• Preparation, cataloging and maintenance of anatomic specimens for use in teaching laboratories to include embalmed, plastinated, skeletal, dried and fresh tissue.
• Set up and put away specimens for BMSC 5150 Anatomic Principles and the Gross Anatomy of the Dog laboratories and BMSC 5120 Comparative Dissection of Large Animals laboratories.
• Use basic handling procedures to manage live dogs and large animals (horse, cow, goat) during palpation presentations and embalming procedures. Assist faculty with embalming and cadaver preparation.
• Set up the laboratory for examinations and supply answer sheet documents on test days.

• Supervise student cleanup of the laboratory and schedule student cleanup groups. Provide additional laboratory cleanup and organization as needed.
• Supervise and schedule student groups responsible for the palpation dogs used in the lab and for scheduled quizzes.

• Know and comply with the lab safety requirements and attend inspections of the laboratory.
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment, arrange repairs as needed for upkeep of equipment.
• Make arrangements with appropriate service providers for building maintenance and upkeep activities.
• Order chemicals and supplies and maintain record of purchases and inventory.
• Work with UGA Chemical Safety personnel to dispose of used embalming and other chemicals.
• Work with UGA Chemical Safety personnel to monitor formaldehyde levels in the laboratory and walk-in cooler air.
