JOB CLASS:
JOB TITLE:  Assistant Preschool Coordinator
REPORTS TO:  Preschool Coordinator
REQUIREMENTS:
• Kentucky Teacher Certificate in Elementary and/or Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education
• Masters’ Degree or non-degree fifth-year program
• Professional Certificate for Instructional Leadership preferred
• Minimum of three years successful teaching experience
• School-level supervisory experience, preferred
• Classroom instruction, assessment practices, and professional interactions reflecting current research-based practices and a desire for continuous learning.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist in implementing appropriate preschool services to eligible students in any OPS-affiliated preschool program.  This encompasses coordination of transition services to the preschool environment, implementation of the academic programs associated with preschool, as well as successful preparation for Kindergarten.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
• At the direction of, and in collaboration with the Preschool Coordinator, all job duties contained herein should be planned, supervised and implemented accordingly.
• Assists in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board; meeting and conferring with students, parents, faculty and staff; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.
• Assists in providing modeling, coaching, and direct support in delivering standards-based instruction for classroom teachers and support staff.
• Assists with implementation of the following academic performance areas:
• standards-based units of study and instructional programs
• balanced assessment (formative, common, benchmark)
• curriculum maps and pacing guides
• remediation and enrichment opportunities
• development of bank of student exemplars
• Assists in identifying instructional strengths and coach individual teachers to refine, extend, and improve their instructional practices by implementing Coaching Cycles that incorporate both technology and instructional coaching.
• Assists in maintaining necessary partnerships with outside agencies that assist in providing necessary preschool services.
• Assists in the overall administration of the school; interprets and enforces school and school division policies and regulations; assists with supervision of certified and classified employees, as assigned.
• Assists in working with teachers and others in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented collaborative learning community.
• Assists in working to develop, implement, and refine the school’s Plan for Continuous Improvement.
• Assists in planning and implementing a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff.
• Assists in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services;  conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
• Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body; deal with special cases as necessary.
• Assists in Identifying the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school system specialists as required.
• Assists in explaining and interpreting division-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, students, and the community.
• Assists in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of learning walks, observations, documentations, and follow-up conferences.
• Assists in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques.
• Assists in student support services as necessary.
• Maintain and model high standards of professionalism.
• Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
• Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
• Adheres to the requirements of District employee handbook, Owensboro Board of Education policies, KRS and KAR, and applicable Federal laws
• Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Owensboro Public Schools.
• Assists in supervising the efficient and accurate maintenance of required records and reports for Head Start and the KERA Preschool Program
• Assists in coordination of ARC chair responsibilities
• Assume other responsibilities normally associated with a school administrative position and as directed by the Preschool Coordinator.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor, environmentally controlled.  Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises.  May require working with or near the public, parents, and children and will be subject to sounds, scents, and other related environmental factors.  This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgment.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Certified Personnel.  The evaluation will be conducted by the Coordinator of Preschool.
